The fine print, kept plain.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and Rayand Software Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 11056834) (“we,” “us,” or “our”), governing your use of the BookWorm application and related services (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, to use the Service. By using it, you represent that you meet this requirement and can form a binding contract.
2. Your account
You can use core features without an account. To use sync, backup and AI features you must create an account, keep your credentials secure, and provide accurate information. You are responsible for activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorised use at support@bookwormapp.co.uk.
3. Licence to use
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own non-commercial use. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, resell, or create derivative works from the Service except as permitted by law.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of the content you create — your reviews, notes, book data, and other contributions (“Your Content”). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, and display Your Content solely to operate and improve the Service. BookWorm does not currently publish Your Content to other users. You are responsible for Your Content and confirm you have the rights to share it.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Post content that is unlawful, infringing, hateful, harassing, deceptive, or obscene;
- Impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation;
- Upload malware, or attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the Service;
- Scrape, harvest, or bulk-extract data except through features we provide;
- Use the Service to violate any law or the rights of others.
6. Community & moderation
BookWorm does not currently let people publish content to each other: your ratings, reviews, notes and shelves are private to your account, and Book Club is a waitlist only. Before we launch any feature that shares content between users, we will add tools to report objectionable content and to block other users, and we will update these Terms. We do not tolerate abusive behaviour and may suspend accounts that violate these Terms.
7. Subscriptions & payment
BookWorm offers optional paid subscriptions (Pro and Max) that unlock multi-device sync and AI features. Each is available on a monthly or yearly billing period. Subscriptions are sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase and are subject to Apple’s terms.
- Billing. Payment is charged to your Apple account at confirmation of purchase, or at the end of any free trial.
- Free trial. Where a plan offers a free trial, the trial converts to a paid subscription at the price shown unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Manage & cancel. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Pricing & changes. Current prices are shown in the app. We may change prices or plans prospectively; changes will not affect your current billing period.
- Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple and are subject to Apple’s refund policies. Requests for refunds should be made through Apple.
8. Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, and trademarks (including the BookWorm name and logo), is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by law. Book metadata, covers, and descriptions are provided by third parties and remain the property of their respective owners. These Terms grant you no rights in our or others’ intellectual property except as expressly stated.
9. Third-party content & services
The Service integrates third-party services (for example, book data providers, the AI provider behind the AI features, and Apple’s In-App Purchase). We are not responsible for third-party content or services, and your use of them may be subject to their own terms.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if necessary to protect the Service or other users. On termination, sections that by their nature should survive (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will survive.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that book data will be accurate or complete.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or USD 50. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law (including, in the UK, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
13. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of England and Wales, unless mandatory local law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings in your local courts.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date. Material changes will be communicated as required, and continued use after changes take effect means you accept them.
